Maks and the Minors

DMN: Max, you’ve just recorded a new CD “Good Morning, Samsara“. How did you manage the recording process?

Max: We started the preproduction middle of last year. Because I and some of the band members were beta testers for the new Digital Musician Container (DMC), we used it to exchange song ideas amongst the members of the band and also work on the arrangements with our producer.

DMN: Which functions do you use the most?

Max: Most of the time we worked off-line enabling us to work time-independent. With the sync- function of the DMC it’s really easy and fast to update the project. Other times we did a live session – I sang vocal lines in my home studio for some new song ideas. With the video function you have a real good communication path.

DMN: You recorded the album in a commercial studio, the “Vox-Klang“ in Hamburg Germany. Did you continue to use the DMC?

Max: We recorded the album live to capture the energy and spontaneity of the band. The Vox-Klang has an awesome recording room. It was pure fun to play there. Here and there I did some last minute overdubbing on the vocals. We used the DMC to send them in 24bit/44,1kHz to the Soundcave studio, where we already had the mix. Per drag and drop we loaded the tracks in the sequencer – fast and easy!

DMN: Will you work with the DMC in the future?

Max: Yes, of course. I think the possibility making music in a large community of musicians around the world is really exciting! I’m looking forward to how this platform will be established online.

DMN: Your record is released on the “Back to Earth (Neo/Sony) Label”. I wish you a great success and thank you for the interview.

Max: Thank you.
