Digital Musician Container FAQ

Can I connect to more than one person?

Yes! The DMC makes a peer-to-peer connection between up to 3 users depending on the speed of the Internet connections.

I cannot connect to my partner

In most cases one of you has a router or firewall that does not support UDP consistent

translation. Check your router's manual. If your router does not support that mode open the

UDP port 58116. This is the DML's basic port. Check your router's manual and/or the

digitalmusician.net tutorials on how you open up the port. Recommendation: This problem

does not occur when your computer is connected directly to your broadband modem.

I am connected to my partner but cannot hear them.

Check the following possible causes first:

  • Are you both using the same sample rate? If there is a mismatch then you will hear nothing
  • Check your audio routings
  • Review the DMC tutorials
  • Review the DMC manual

Can I use the DMC on the same network?

No. On your router, you have to dedicate one port for the DMC and as it connects to the router and not your computer, it is not possible to dedicate the same port twice.

Why have I only got 128 kbit/s audio compression?

The audio compression rate for Free Account users is limited to 128 Kbit/s. If you require higher audio quality it is recommended you upgrade to a Pro Account which allows you to work at 256 Kbit/s.

I've got a webcam connected but my partner cannot see me.

If your upload is 128 kbit/s or slower you might not receive any video signal because the entire

bandwidth is needed for audio data. Try to decrease the audio rate on the DM-Container's

option page (48 kbit/s for example). The audio quality is reduced but you should get a picture as

well. If this method doesn't work then check your webcam. The best way is to open a video

application that is closely connected to your OS. If your webcam works then it is setup properly. Check your webcam's manual for more details.

How does the DMC work with Rewire?

The DMC can be configured as either a master or slave to your DAW, but please note that the Rewire protocol only allows audio data transfer in one direction only. A rewire connection is not recommended for online sessions where you need to receive data from your partner.

When I record with the DMC I hear my signal delayed.

This may be due to latency issues which will require you to reduce the buffer size of your soundcard. However this increases the performance load on our computer. Some Plug Ins may also cause a delay. Try deactivating them for the recording session.

Can I use my VST-Plug Ins in the DMC?

Yes! Just click on the VST-Button and all of your VST-Plug Ins become available. For detailed information have a look in our DMC-tutorial.
